The Contemporary British Painting Prize

The Contemporary British Painting (CBP) Prize is an artist-led initiative organized by members of CBP, designed by painters for painters. The 2024 Prize will showcase works from contemporary painters across the UK, selected from an open call. This year, the 17 shortlisted artists are:

Simon Averill, Ruth Bateman, Daniel H Bell, Eric Butcher, Alison Critchlow, Zavier Ellis, Lothar Götz, Andy Harper, Davina Jackson, Angela Lizon, Lily Macrae, Dougal McKenzie, Harriet Mena Hill, Sophia Rosenthal, Olivia Sterling, Simon Taylor, and Polly Townsend.

The winner of the CBP Prize 2024 will be awarded £8,000, along with a catalogue essay about their work. Additionally, they will be invited to join Contemporary British Painting as a member and have the opportunity to serve as a selector for the CBP Prize 2025.

The Prize also includes other prestigious awards. One artist will receive a Highly Commended Award with a cash prize of £2,000. Another artist will be chosen for the Blyth Gallery Exhibition Award, granting them a curated solo or small group exhibition for the 2025/26 academic year.
